چکیده

Among the alternative methods for energy storage , using the potential energy of water stored in different heights has been considered by human for ages. Storage pumping plants have been invented for this purpose and are considered as one of the most reliable and effective methods of storing the electrical energy. Factors such as having appropriate static and dynamic stability, high efficiency, suitable steady state and transient performance, the least cost of manufacturing, utilities and etc. can play a major role in choosing the type of machines for energymaking. Therefore, advantages and capabilities of variable speed storage -pumping plants, compared with conventional synchronous ones, have drawn into consideration in this paper. Different viewpoints such as structure and steady state behavior are focused for comparing the application of Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIG) and synchronous ones in storage hydro plants. Dynamic stimulations are also used to evaluate the performance of variable-speed versus synchronous fixed-speed generation units.

Comparison of the effects of two flatness based control methods for STATCOM on improving stability in power systems including DFIG based wind farms

Power grids are complex, interconnected and nonlinear systems, and this will be more severe when they are subjected to high wind resources penetration. Static synchronous compensators (STATCOM) are used to improve voltage regulation and to meet grid codes in power systems, including doubly fed induction generators (DFIG) based wind farms. Despite the nonlinear nature of STATCOM, the conventiona...

Transient Analysis of Dfig Wind Turbines in Multi-machine Networks

The investigation and determination of the impact of DFIG wind farms and their controllers on power system transient performance require power system simulation and analysis tools that incorporate both an accurate dynamic model of a DFIG wind turbine and a realistic representation of a power network [1]. This paper investigates the dynamic performance of DFIG wind turbines in multiple machine s...

Unit Commitment in Presence of Wind Power Plants and Energy Storage

As renewable energy increasingly penetrates into power grid systems, new challenges arise for system operators to keep the systems reliable under uncertain circumstances, while ensuring high utilization of renewable energy. This paper presents unit commitment (UC) which takes into account the volatility of wind power generation. The UC problem is solved with the forecasted intermittent wind pow...
